Background

I am the owner of Maureen Barlow Design, a web design, web development, and graphic design firm in Boston, MA USA.  My skills encompass hand-coded HTML, JavaScript, CSS, PHP, ASP, JSP, MySQL, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash. I work on projects for clients ranging from artists to construction companies. On some projects I work with a team of web developers to produce complex, database-driven websites.

I began my career as a molecular biologist, having received my Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from the University of Rhode Island.  I was employed in several laboratories, ranging from academia to the biotech industry, for over ten years. During several research positions, I took on numerous responsibilities for maintaining the computer systems and designing the lab websites, and it was here that I discovered my talent and desire to be a web and graphic designer.

By 1998, I had learned HTML and had designed my first homepage. Over the next year and a half, I realized that I wanted to pursue a career shift towards web development, design, and user interface engineering.

In September of 1999, I started my design firm.  Over the years, I have taken numerous professional and certification classes, networked with many professionals, and read countless books on the subject of web design, graphic design, and web usability. I am now self-employed, full-time, and look forward to many more design projects!
